Asklepion
The Asklepion of Kos is the island’s most iconic archaeological site and a symbol of its ancient healing legacy. Built in honor of Asclepius, the god of medicine, it served as a healing center where Hippocrates himself is believed to have taught. Set on a peaceful hillside with sweeping views, the site’s layered terraces, ancient columns, and sacred altars offer a fascinating glimpse into early medical practice and spiritual healing.
Ancient Agora
The Ancient Agora of Kos was once the bustling heart of the island’s political and commercial life. Dating back to the 4th century BC, this sprawling site features remnants of temples, baths, shops, and mosaics. Walking among its ruins today, you can imagine merchants, philosophers, and citizens gathering in what was one of the largest agoras in the ancient world.
Castle of the Knights
The Castle of the Knights, also known as the Neratzia Fortress, stands proudly at the entrance of Kos Town’s harbor. Built by the Knights of Saint John in the 15th century, it once protected the island from pirates and invaders. Today, its massive stone walls, ancient cannons, and panoramic sea views offer a powerful glimpse into Kos’s medieval past and the island’s strategic importance in the Aegean.
